PostSubject: Exchange services and DNS not starting   Fri Dec 19, 2008 2:43 pm

When you try to start the Microsoft SA we get the error:
---------------------------
Services
---------------------------
The Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service on Local Computer started and then
stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example,
the Performance Logs and Alerts service.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Although RPC service is started.
Also DNS server had a RED X on it.
Check the event viewer:

Unexpected error There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.
Facility: Win32 ID no: c00706d9 Microsoft Exchange System Attendant occurred.

RESOLUTION:
==========

This problem may occur if the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) has been configured to use a certain range of ports for incoming requests, but the range that has been specified is not large enough.

Go into regedit and delet the following registry key (make sure you backup the regitry before making any changes):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Rpc\Internet
Reboot the server.
The checked the DNS console. It should no longer have a red'x' in it
Also all the Exchange services would start.

Please post your views and comments Very Happy
